GEO Glossary

Entity

An entity is a clearly identifiable thing, such as a brand, a person, a place or a product, that search engines and AI models know as a distinct concept with properties and relationships.

At a glance

// a brand as an entity
ENTITY: bernard.digital ├─ is a → SEO consultancy ├─ based in → Berlin ├─ belongs to → Bernard Zitzer └─ known for → GEO, content, reputation the clearer these edges, the safer the mention

Example

If someone asks an AI for a GEO consultancy in Berlin, the model looks for entities that match both: the topic GEO and the place Berlin. A brand that appears everywhere with the same details (name, location, service) is more likely to be recognised as a matching entity than one whose details contradict each other.

In practice

Keep your core details identical everywhere: website, Google Business Profile, industry directories, LinkedIn. Add structured data on the website (Organization schema with sameAs links to your profiles). The less ambiguous the entity, the less often an AI confuses you. What that looks like for a whole brand is shown by my Entity Map as a live example.

How it fits together

Whether an AI knows your entity is decided first in its Training data. If it doesn’t know you, or only vaguely, the risk of a Hallucination rises. Every Mention in third-party sources strengthens the entity.
