Share of Voice

Share of voice is your share of all brand mentions on a topic, compared with your competitors.

Example

You are named in 31 of 100 answers. The number alone says little. Only compared with competitors does it show whether you’re ahead or need to catch up.

// example, simplified
FORMULA Mentions of your brand ─────────────────────────────── × 100 Mentions of all brands in the prompt set

Why it matters for GEO

Absolute numbers fluctuate with every new prompt. The share stays comparable and shows where you stand against the competition. That makes it the most important metric for reports.

In practice

You need a fixed prompt set and a fixed list of competitors. You query both regularly so the values stay comparable over time.

How it fits together

Every Mention is counted across a fixed set of Prompts. Only together with Sentiment does it tell you about your position in the market.
